The early medieval site of the Paranagar comprises of one surviving temple (dedicated to Shiva and partly reconstructed by the ASI), and an extensive area that is filled with scattered ruins of some 200 odd temples. the site sits on an isolated plateau top, which is surrounded by ruined walls of the Rajorgarh Fort. A steep rough hilly track and a strenuous drive that accords some dramatic views of the surrounding landscape takes one to this temple complex.
Parashar Dham is situated in inaccessible and forest area. Ved Vyas, son of Maharishi Parashar, has written in Mahabharata that the dead body of Danveer Karna was also cremated at this place. Not only this, evidence of this is also found at this place. It is believed that Karna was blessed that his cremation would not take place on the ground. Due to which his last rites were performed in the middle of Khoh mountain.There is immense peace and sweet atmosphere spread all around. Wildlife monkeys, langurs and peacocks are seen everywhere here. The natives here say that this place is very peaceful and sacred. It is also believed that it rains yellow drops at night. Which looks exactly like sandalwood. Many people have seen them early in the morning at the natural pond and on the stairs of Parashar Taposthali. It is also believed that Maharishi Parashar visits the Yagya site once every year.
Narayani Mata is the place where the incident of first sati (immolation by fire) took place prior to Rani Sati. As per the myth, after marriage Narayani was going to her in-laws place with her husband. On the way her husband was bitten by a snake and was dead. She was deep into grief and prayed to Lord Shiva sitting next to his unlit funeral pyre to give him back his life or allow her commit sati with her dead husband. Her prayer was answered by Lord Shiva who sent a holy fire to consume both of them. As per the local belief both Rani Sati & Narayani Mata are same. There is a holy spring nearby adding beauty to the temple.
